American to launch no-frills economy

From February, American Airlines is rolling out 'Basic Economy' discounted fares to 10 domestic market routes.

The number of Basic Economy seats will vary depending on the flight.

The new service allows only one personal carry-on item that has to fit under the seat.

No overhead bin luggage is allowed. The service also does not allow assigned seats before check in, restricts upgrades, there are no reservation changes and fares are non refundable. The new fares use the same seats, snacks and
amenities as main cabin fares.

Rivals United and Delta have their own variations on Basic Economy.
