FAA investigating titanium authenticity claims

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating possibly-falsified documents that verified the authenticity of titanium used in some recently manufactured Boeing and Airbus jets, according to the New York Times.

The documents are also being investigated by Spirit AeroSystems, which supplies fuselages for Boeing and wings for Airbus.

Titanium is used to make landing gear, blades and turbine discs for aircraft.

The investigation was prompted by the discovery of small corrosion holes in the material.
