Lufthansa confident of Ita takeover okay

Germany's Lufthansa says it expects the European Union (EU) to okay its takeover of Italian national carrier Ita Airways, which would allow the Italian government to dispose of its shares in loss-making Ita.


The first phase of the takeover is likely to involve a 41 per cent stake in Ita, worth about EUR325 million. Later, Lufthansa will have the option of buying another 49 per cent, should it wish to, with the final 10 per cent left on the table until some 'future date'.
