Australia keeps door open for new MH370 search

The Australian government says it has not ruled out a future underwater search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Families of those on board have criticised the decision to suspend the hunt.

The plane, a Boeing 777, disappeared in 2014 en route to Beijing from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur with 239 people on board.

"I don't rule out a future underwater search by any stretch," Australian Transport minister Darren Chester told reporters a day after Australia, Malaysia and China called off their southern Indian Ocean search.

The search cost around A$200 million and has already been extended twice.

Chester said that a new search would require "credible new information which leads to a specific location".
