New cargo challenge for Vietstar Air

There are plans to  have Vietnam’s aviation market boosted by a new military-run carrier with a fleet of freighters as well as its current passenger aircraft, the Ministry of Transport says.

In the first five years of operation, the airline says it could have a fleet of three Boeing 737s/Airbus 320s.

Vietstar Airlines is the business arm of the Air Defense-Air Force of Vietnam, a Ministry of Defense service that assumes responsibility of both the national air defense and air forces.
The company was established in 2010 to operate as a general aviation carrier.

Besides offering military air services, Vietstar Airlines also currently serves civil passengers in air charter and air taxi services.

"The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) will create favorable conditions for Vietstar Airlines to participate in domestic and international air transport and direct the airline to become a cargo carrier," said CAAV chief Lai Xuan Thanh.
