Weekend Bali flights still on the cards for Australian airlines

Australian airlines Jetstar and Virgin Australia still are refusing to fly in or out of Bali despite the airport reopening, saying volcanic ash cloud remains "unacceptably close". Both carriers said they would make a decision on Saturday flights late Friday.
"Although Denpasar airport has reopened, the ash cloud is still too close for us to fly safely to and from Australia," a Jetstar spokesperson said.
Virgin Australia said: "As a result of the latest advice from our team of meteorologists, senior pilots and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, Virgin Australia has determined that conditions in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport remain unsafe for flying.
"Mt Rinjani continues to erupt and wind conditions remain unfavourable for Virgin Australia operations.
Virgin Australia has therefore cancelled six of the fourteen scheduled flights between Denpasar (Bali) and Australia Saturday 7 November."
Bali airport reopened on Thursday, saying the ash from the volcano on Lombok island was no longer blowing towards Bali.
Among other carriers, AirAsia said flights to and from Bali were operating as normal on Friday except four between Denpasar, Melbourne and Sydney; Garuda Indonesia resumed its regular services to Bali and Banyuwangi in East Java, though Lombok International Airport remained closed.
