Nigeria to open its first convention centre this year

Nigeria’s first dedicated convention centre, Calabar International Convention Centre (Calabar ICC), is on schedule for an official opening in the third quarter of 2015.

The opening heralds Nigeria’s entrance into the international meetings industry.

The country has a population of 170 million, 40 million of whom are middle-income earners and also projected continuous economic growth, with GDP of US$510 billion.

The new centre’s chief executive is Paul D’Arcy, who previously was in a similar role with the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Malaysia. Ben Asoro is director of marketing and sales.
