Perth wins Web meet for 2017

Perth has won its bid to host the World Wide Web (WWW) Conference in 2017, beating off strong competition from Sydney.

The annual WWW Conference is the premier international forum to present and discuss progress in research, development, standards and applications of the topics related to the Web and its future direction.

The worldwide web was first created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 at CERN in Geneva Switzerland and organisers are hopeful he will speak at the event in Perth.

More than 2000-plus delegates are expected to attend the five-day event at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, generating up to A$6 million for the Western Australian economy.

Perth based conference organiser, EECW, has been appointed to manage all logistics for the WWW event.

The 2015 WWW conference will be held in Florence, Italy 18 - 22 May and the 2016 event in Montreal, Canada.
