Venue quality now easier to assess

A recently launched Venue Standard provides meetings and event buyers with an indication of the quality of both product and service offered by any given venue using the 1-5 star rating system that has become the standard in the hotel industry.

The Venue Standard was created by Excellence Squared (a UKAS accredited certification body). It has already been undertaken by a range of venues across the United Kingdom and  during the next six months, the ratings will be available  for venues in Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia.

The Venue Standard is based on the well-established hotel star rating system, allowing buyers to instantly appreciate both the quality of product and service offered by a particular venue.

The four key areas of assessment are:

-          Customer feedback (online, face-to-face, complaint handling and responsibilities).

-          Administration (bookings, communications, planning, confirmation and follow-up).

-          Quality of product (rooms, equipment, catering and facilities).

-          Service delivery (pre-arrival, arrival, hospitality, room setup and service presentation).

In addition to establishing a venue’s current quality rating, The Venue Standard also provides significant amounts of data and feedback, allowing each venue the opportunity to improve itself moving forward, while demonstrating its quality to the market as a whole.

Gary Swarbrooke from The Venue Standard said: “Our plan includes the establishment of The Venue Standard as the first global assessment, ensuring fair comparison of venues by event buyers researching and planning events in a wide variety of different locations around the world.

“Where possible, The Venue Standard will seek to complement alternative standards already in existence throughout the world, embracing similar accreditation schemes that cover similar criteria."
