MEA tips solid turnout for HI meet

The Meetings Events Association of Australia is expecting a good turnout for its annual conference and exhibition on Hamilton Island (HI), Queensland 24-26 May.

MEA chief executive Linda Gaunt said budget numbers of around 450 participants had been reached.

“Initial bookings were slow, which gave me a few grey hairs, but late booking patterns seem to be a trend these days, probably because everyone is quite busy,” said Gaunt.

Sponsorship and exhibitors also are ahead of last year’s show, which went off shore for the first time to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“We have received tremendous support from Hamilton Island, which was keen to show off the benefits to our members of staging meetings and events on the holiday island and AVPartners, which is handling all the sound technology.  We launched the special conference app yesterday, speakers have been firmed up and there is a great buzz going forward. I expect the conference to be very successful.”

Speakers have changed due to the late withdrawal of Matt Church. He has been replaced by Tim Reid, a marketing specialist who will deliver the keynote address.

Reid is a published author, has featured on several tv shows and will speak on ’Small business-Big Marketing’. Program chair is Nigel Collin.

Other speakers include Darren Isenberg, Toby Travanner (The Learning Company) and Twitter senior executive Angus Keen on ‘Power Social Selling’.

The program will close with the MEA National Awards dinner.
