'Canny' (frugal) Scots will be able to fly from Edinburgh to New York for less than GBP60 (about A$100) from northern summer 2017, the chief executive of low-cost carrier Norwegian Air says.

Bjorn Kjos said the airline will use new Boeing 737MAX jets on the run.

Norwegian already operates services twice a day from Gatwick to New York with prices starting from GBP125 one way.

“The Boeing 737MAX has a very modern engine, which means it can go for a longer distance. We’ll also be flying to secondary airports in New York (not JF Kennedy Airport). That means we don’t pay as much and can charge cheaper fares”, said Kjos.
