Wow steps up pressure on Atlantic

While recent press coverage* has focused on ultra-cheap flights from Europe to the USA (including Norwegian's GBP56 flights from Edinburgh, Scotland), Iceland's Wow Air has now launched US$70 flights from California to Europe.
The fares are valid from January 15 through April 5 and fly via Iceland to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Bristol and Edinburgh.
Wow also has released sub-US$100 fares from Miami and Boston.
The airline's ceo Skúli Mogensen says he aims to make the cheap fares a regular offering.
"I don't want to introduce this as a sale," Mogensen said. "It's really setting the stage for what is coming.
"Very much like low-cost airlines changed the game domestically in both Europe and in North America, I think what we and Norwegian are now doing will permanently change the fare structure across the Atlantic.
"The game has changed permanently to benefit the consumer."
