US tightens airport security

Passengers flying to the US are being advised that tighter security measures come into force this week, with more stringent screening, particularly of large electronic devices.
There will also be more security around aircraft and in passenger areas and more sniffer dogs used.

Airlines have been told to implement increased explosive trace detection screening by July 19 and to comply with other measures within 120 days.

The measures are in response to increased explosives threats.
