Boeing still wants Spirit

As fallout from the January 5 Alaska Air MAX 9 incident continues, plane maker Boeing reportedly intends to cut Spirit AeroSystems’ ties to rival manufacturer Airbus as it moves to take over the supplier.

Boeing previously owned Spirit, which builds fuselage parts for Boeing as well as wings for some Airbus planes.

Boeing has 'talked up' a takeover of Spirit since a door panel fell off an Alaska Air-operated 737 MAX 9 at the beginning of the year.

Both Boeing and Airbus have grappled with supply chain pressures since the pandemic, which have prompted delays to airline deliveries across the world.
