Airlines avoid Iran's airspace as tensions rise

Australia's Qantas says it is redirecting its non-stop flights between Perth and London to fly via Singapore and refuel there to avoid Iran's airspace amid soaring Middle East tensions that saw Iran send more than 200 drones and also fire ballistic and cruise missiles towards Israel on Saturday.

The Spectator reported that the combined air forces of Israel, the UK, US, Saudi and Jordan were able to block the attack, while Israel's defence force the IDF said 99 per cent of the drones and missiles were destroyed.

No more attacks seem likely, the Spectator added.

"The US is not interested in war with Iran," said Lloyd Austin, the US Defense secretary and reports elsewhere suggested the attack on Israel was a one-off.

El Al has resumed its domestic flight schedule and airspace has reopened in Iraq.
