Premium traffic hit by ageing population?

A North American researcher says airlines are over-confident when predicting long term growth in premium traffic and that he believes ageing populations will reduce the demand for business travel.

Henry Harteveldt of Forrester Research says that as populations age and there is growing use of global communication, customer profiles will change dramatically.

The researcher also said the percentage of the population 60 years and older is expected to double to 22 per cent by 2050.

These passengers would require better lighting, improved onboard communications and signage, along with better positioning of washrooms.
