Steve Gower, director of the Australian War Memorial, will take the helm as the board’s new chairman, and will replace former chair Tom Snow who has relocated to Sydney. Gower will be supported by a new deputy chairman, Alan Williams, ACT regional general manager, Qantas.
Other new appointments include Matthew Young, general manager, Crowne Plaza Canberra and the National Convention Centre, Tarn Morrow, general manager, Rydges Eagle Hawk Resort, and Gary Byles, acting chief executive of the ACT Department of Territory and Municipal Services.
CCB chief executive Robyn Hendry said the appointments reflect the bureau’s core objective to target specific industry sectors for increased business events in the ACT.
"The importance of business tourism to the Canberra economy can’t be ignored, with the sector currently generating more than one-third of all visitation to Canberra and valued at $990 million a year," said Hendry.
"We now have a re energised and reinvigorated team in place ready to lead the bureau through the New Year and to tackle the challenges of the next 12 months."
Other members of the CCB Board include: Dennis Souter (treasurer) owner, The Boat House by the Lake; Karl-Werner Diefenbach, general manager, Hyatt Hotel Canberra; Barry Neame, director, Consec Conference Management; Mark Sproat, general manager, The Brassey of Canberra; Jane Carter, director, Conference Logistics; Professor Ian Chubb vice chancellor, Australian National University and Professor Mandy Thomas, pro vice chancellor, Research, Australian National University
