A survey of 86 airlines by The Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR UK) shows 86 per cent of the airlines would seek additional frequencies if slots were available at London Heathrow and 88 per cent say the UK economy is being damaged as a result of excessive taxation and capacity restrictions imposed by the UK government.

IATA keeps fingers crossed on EU ETS

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is "disappointed" the EU Court of Justice has ignored objections to aviation's inclusion in the EU's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), but says it has not given up hope of getting aviation removed from the EU ETS, which comes into force in 2012.

A group of aviation and tourism chiefs have urged UK chancellor George Osborne to scrap plans for a "double-double whammy" of increases in aviation duty next northern spring after the Office for National Statistics revealed that in June passengers flying from the UK paid GBP226 million in Air Passenger Duty - an increase of 25 per cent year on year.
