Antonov carries Turkey-built satellite for SpaceX

Antonov Airlines and charter firm Proair have used an AN-124-100 to transport a Türksat 6A satellite from Turkey to the US.

For loading the piece into the cargo cabin of the freighter, a low-profile cargo ramp was needed, in combination with external cranes.

Antonov Airlines commercial executive Vladyslav Ishchuk said: “There were doubts about loading the satellite because of the height of the container – 414.6cm, while the size of the cargo door cabin is 440cm."

The Türksat 6A satellite is the first geostationary communication satellite built in Turkey.

It will be launched by SpaceX and will serve end users in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and much of the Asian continent, as well as Turkey.
