'Take your B787 back and fix it' - Norwegian

Norwegian budget airline Norwegian Air Shuttle is to return one of its new B787s to Stockholm, where a team from plane maker Boeing will work on it.

The plane currently is in Bangkok, where it suffered a hydraulic pump failure.

The carrier will lease an Airbus A340 for its long-haul business in the interim and says it will not return the B787 to service "until it is more reliable".

"The aircraft's reliability is simply not acceptable, our passengers cannot live with this kind of performance," spokesman Lasse Sandaker-Nielsen said.

"We are returning the aircraft to Boeing to improve its reliability."

Norwegian's first two Dreamliners, part of a planned fleet of eight, broke down more than six times in September, forcing it to lease back-up planes on
short notice or to cancel flights.

Boeing has promised to locate spare parts centres at all of the airline's long-haul destinations and to send a team of engineers to the Nordics to monitor the planes.

Meanwhile, a Polish lot B787 has made an unscheduled landing in Reykjavik, Iceland, because of a malfunctioning antenna.
