FedEx affiliate faces fine

A US company operating an air freight fleet on behalf of Fedex Express is facing a serious fine after allegedly breaching US regulations.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a US$132,425 civil penalty against Mountain Air Cargo of Denver, North Carolina, for operating an ATR-42 airplane not repaired in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.

The FAA alleges Mountain Air Cargo mechanics improperly repaired a dent in a cargo door at the rear of the aircraft and failed to follow the FAA-approved aircraft maintenance program.

It should have reported the damage to the aircraft manufacturer along with a repair plan, and obtained the manufacturer’s approval for the repairs.
Mountain Air Cargo is scheduled to meet with the FAA within days to discuss the case.

Mountain Air Cargo provides flight and maintenance services throughout the eastern half of the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands.
