Cathay pilots on work-to-rule

Pilots at Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific say they will start a program of work-to-rule after pay talks broke down.

The pilots' union the Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association (HKAOA) said 92 per cent of members had approved the action and added: "It is unfortunate that a year of negotiations has brought us to this point."

The union's general secretary Chris Beebe went on: "The pilot members, who are based in Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United States, will be instructed to perform their assigned duties in strict conformance with their existing conditions of service," and the union "looks forward to resuming talks with management for a fairer, more equitable agreement on pay".

Cathay said it was "extremely disappointed" at the decision and that talks would now be put "on hold".
