US ports face possible strike action

US ports and unions say east and Gulf coast terminals face the possibility of strike action after talks between the US Maritime Alliance (USMX) and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) broke down.

The ILA said automated technology being used to process trucks at port terminals without union labour breached its agreement with USMX.

In the past, strike action at US ports has resulted in a spike in airfreight demand as firms switched from sea to air for their deliveries.
