IATA predicts worse losses for 2009, revises 2008 figures

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revised its global financial forecast, now predicting airline losses totalling US$11 billion in 2009. This is US$2 billion worse than the previously-projected US$9 billion loss due to rising fuel prices and exceptionally weak yields. Industry revenues for the year are expected to fall by US$80 billion (15 per cent) to US$455 billion compared with 2008 levels.

A European report says Air France-KLM is to heavily restructure its freight operations between now and 2012, first cutting its freighter fleet and then transferring freighter operations to Dutch subsidiary Martinair.

Singapore’s Changi Airport has signed a 'sister airport' agreement with China’s Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) for the two to share expertise. The agreement means the two airports will work on projects, seminars and possibly collaborate on staff training.
