Bangkok, Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi airport was opened to cargo flights yesterday, but Serirat Prasutanond, managing director of Airports of Thailand (AOT) told Reuters the airport would remain closed to passenger flights until December 15, though later reports said it would reopen within days.

Now that the siege of Bangkok’s two city airports has ended, Logistics firms said that during the blockade, parcel deliveries to Thailand were delayed only by about two-to-three days and outbound, export services were switched from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi to U-tapao airport as well as other regional hubs and/or delivered by road.

Air freight forwarder and sea freight services provider Grand Power Logistics Group of Canada has turned in a third quarter net loss despite revenues for the quarter rising 34 per cent year-over-year.

Thai Transport minister Santi Prompat said Tuesday he has told police to clear access to the cargo terminal at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport and also has told Airports of Thailand (AoT), the Civil Aviation Department and the Customs Department to be ready to restart aircargo operations in two days.
