The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says there was a modest improvement in air cargo markets in August, with demand up 3.6 per cent on the previous year compared to a year-to-date 0.7 per cent expansion.

Economic performance in Europe and the US showed signs of improvement, but the Asia-Pacific region, with a collective 38 per cent market share was almost flat at -0.2 per cent.

The US Department of Justice has asked the federal court to halt the anti-trust case against American Airlines and US Airways because the current government shutdown means it has no funds.
It is understood the court has said the case will proceed.
