Global Airlines starts building its fleet

Second-hand A380 fleet startup Global Airlines says it still hopes to start transatlantic operations from the UK with two jets flying to New York and Los Angeles later this year.

It already has one A380 'on the ground' in the UK.

The airline was founded in July 2021 by entrepreneur James Asquith, who says he plans to extend its network beyond transatlantic routes, flying A380s configured with 450-470 seats in first, business and economy classes and possibly adding premium economy later.

An earlier plan to offer a separate 'Gamer' class for people who wanted to play video games has been dropped.

Cabins and exteriors of (eventually) four jets will be styled by JETMS Completions (a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group). JETMS says the project will be its largest to date and its first on an A380 fleet.

The first plane originally was operated by China Southern and flew to the UK after testing in the US that (reportedly) showed all systems met Airbus standards.
