Liquidators start downsizing at Air Vanuatu

Air Vanuatu (Operations) is to restructure, with about 170 jobs expected to be impacted as liquidators seek to cut the company’s cost base and prepare the business for sale or recapitalisation.

“The restructuring at Air Vanuatu is an unfortunate but necessary step in order to bring on board new investors and capitalise on strong domestic and international demand for travel,” said Morgan Kelly, partner in Strategy & Transactions at EY.

“The restructure attempts to position Air Vanuatu for growth.”

An Expressions of Interest (EoI) campaign is currently under way, with interested parties given a deadline of Friday 07 June to respond.

The business has international airport slots in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, New Caledonia and Fiji, as well as owned and leased aircraft and other assets and EY wants Air Vanuatu to resume flying critical routes to make it attractive to potential investors.
