P&O Cruises Australia to close

Citing poor local economics, P&O Cruises Australia will close in March 2025 and its business will be integrated into its sister line, Carnival Cruise Line.
Carnival ceo Josh Weinstein said the move was due to the South Pacific’s “small population” and “significantly higher operating and regulatory costs”.

Once the integration is complete, the Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships will begin sailing under the Carnival Cruise Line brand and the Pacific Explorer will leave the fleet, with its scheduled cruises after March 2 cancelled.

Cruise operators have complained about limited capacity and high berthing charges at Australian ports - and plans for a third terminal in Sydney so far have failed to eventuate.
