Air Canada jet lands safely after fire

An Air Canada B777 burst into flames moments after taking off from Canada's Toronto Pearson Airport on the evening of June 5 as it headed to Paris, France.

The plane returned to the airport and Air Canada said none of the 400 or so passengers was injured by a problem with the engine's compressor.

“After the aircraft landed, it was inspected by airport response vehicles as per normal operating processes, and it taxied to the gate on its own,” the airline said.
Witnesses on the ground said they could see multiple flashes of light almost immediately after the plane took off.
