Former MP invents 'seatcase'

Former UK politician Tony Benn has invented a carry-bag 'seatcase' - a suitcase that doubles as a seat.

The seatcase has a fold-down fisherman's canvas seat with slide-out, steel-frame legs which are attached to the back of the case. He uses it on buses, trains or when waiting at stations when there isn't another seat available.

Benn said: "The secret is that it is light and easy to carry. It is also small enough to be allowed in the cabin on flights.
Grahame Herbert, a designer, helped Benn with his seatcase idea.

He said: "The real trick was to find a way of attaching the seat without getting in the way of the zips. It would be very annoying if people couldn't easily get out a pullover or book from their case."

It is likely to retail for around GBP30.
