Swedish pilots begin strike action

About 2,000 Swedish domestic airline pilots were expected to go on strike Wednesday over concerns about employment conditions.

The Swedish Air Transport Industry Employers' Association said most pilots planned only a Wednesday morning strike, with pilots back in the cockpit from 11am.

However, pilots at Avia Express, Golden Air, Avitrans Nordic and Svenskt Direktflyg would remain on strike until 2100 GMT.

Union spokesman Dag Gustavsson said the conflict centres on the airlines' wish to be able to employ pilots on a freelance basis.
