BA on recruitment drive

UK carrier British Airways has launched a recruitment drive for 1,250 new cabin crew to be employed at wage levels lower than incumbent staff as it continues its plan to drive down costs.

The cabin crew will operate in a separate fleet from existing employees, as the carrier says it can no longer afford the crew costs at Heathrow airport, which are "way out of line" with its competitors.

BA estimates that in 10 years' time, new crew will represent around 40 per cent of total cabin crew.
