Finnair in Q4 loss

As its chief executive Jukka Hienonen warned that the rest of 2009 would be "gloomy", Finnish carrier Finnair has reported a fourth-quarter EUR44 million net loss because of higher costs caused partly by write downs and despite an increase in passenger traffic.

Revenue grew by two per cent to EUR580 million, up from EUR569 million.

The net loss compared to a net profit of EUR27 million a year earlier, the carrier said.

Fleet and services expenses more than doubled to EUR38 million in the period, including servicing and repairing aircraft. It also had write downs amounting to EUR10 million and accounting and hedge expenses of EUR118 million.
