Congrex expands into Canada

Professional travel organiser Congrex is to open a Vancouver, Canada office in the last quarter of 2010 in a bid to grow its business there.

Adriana Spitteler, who has held the position of managing director for Congrex Travel AG in Basel, Switzerland since 1994 will head the new office.

"The North American meetings and events industry is very active and brings good revenue to Canada through local and international associations," said Layth Bunni, chief executive Congrex. "Although there are many professional organisers, Congrex feels there is still opportunity for new players to pitch in with specialised services, value added services and post event services."

Spitteler agreed saying: “There clearly is an opportunity for new entrants in Canada, looking at the number of events organised there. By offering unique services and partnering with associations we will try to convince the Canadian market of our unique approach.”

Bunni said Vancouver was chosen as a strategic location as it has become more popular in recent years. "The recently re-opened Vancouver Convention Centre has tripled in size and Vancouver was host of the 2010 Olympic & Paralympics Winter Games. On top of this, ICCA (the International Congress and Convention Association) has ranked Vancouver as North America's top destination for international meetings."
