The April result brings Australian numbers for the first four months of this year to 78,430, a 42 per cent increase over the 54,959 visiting across the same period in 2009 and keeping Fiji on track for a record-breaking year.
The strong Australian result helped take Fiji’s international visitor tally to 171,438 for the four-month period, the figure eclipsing the 2009 result of 139,642 by 22.8 per cent.
The April figure of 44,496 was also Fiji’s strongest April result since 2006.
Figures from other source markets also improved with New Zealand arrivals for the month increasing from 5,684 to 6,320, an increase of 11.2 per cent.
US figures also were up, increasing 26.2 per cent from 3,526 to 4,450.
The national tourist office also recorded strong results from several of its emerging Asian markets.
While base figures remain relatively small from China, Taiwan and South Korea, respective visitor arrivals increases of 58 per cent, 28 per cent and 24 per cent demonstrate strong potential for Fiji from all three markets.
Australia remains Fiji’s largest source market now accounting for 45 per cent of total arrivals for the first four months of the year.
