Government to see all PNR data

Australian law enforcement agencies will have access to all airline PNR data under a new Enhanced Passenger Assessment and Clearance (EPAC) system announced by minister for Home Affairs Brendan O'Connor.

The intent is to "better identify persons of interest at the border," he said.

"The next phase will see more data collected earlier from airline reservation and check-in systems to achieve faster risk assessment of a greater number of passengers," he added.

The system, to be fully-implemented within two years, will help identify frequent travellers on routes known to be used by drug couriers or considered to be associated with terrorist risk.
