Finland takes first Allegro

The first of the four Allegro high-speed trains will go into service between Helsinki , Finland and St Petersburg, Russia from 01 July following fine-tuning and static testing of the Italian-built train.

The three remaining trains will be delivered to Finland by the end of the year.

The new Allegro trains will cut the journey time between Helsinki and St Petersburg  by two and half hours and have a maximum speed of 220 kilometres an hour. Border and Customs inspections will take place on the train in both countries.

The Allegro trains are planned to replace the Sibelius and Repin trains that currently operate between St Petersburg and Helsinki. Allegro service will also enable the gradual increase of rail services between the two cities.

The non-smoking train has seven carriages and 344 seats, and also features a speaker and display system which enables passenger announcements in Finnish, Russian and English.
