Boeing faces 'complex' Spirit buy back

US plane maker Boeing's plan to buy back the B737 fuselage supplier Spirit AeroSystems has hit a snag, partly because the target firm now also makes components for Airbus (plus aerospace firm Northrop Grumman and others) and according to Bloomberg, Airbus 'appears to be in no rush' to strike a quick deal.

Boeing spun off the Spirit business in 2005.

Airbus wants to avoid unnecessary costs at plants including Spirit’s composite wing factory in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Spirit bought the Belfast manufacturing plant from Canadian plane maker Bombardier about four years ago. (Bombardier once produced what it called the 'C series' single-aisle jet before selling it to Airbus, which rebranded it the Airbus A220.)

For its part, Spirit says its focus "remains on providing our customers with the highest-quality product”.
