From June 1, 11 Scottish airports will benefit from a GBP1 million upgrade that will affect security and hand baggage limits, thanks to new enhanced screening equipment.

The Highlands and Islands (HAIL) airports are upgrading to new high-tech x-ray equipment that ends the requirement for placing liquids in clear plastic bags with a maximum 100ml in each container -  passengers will be allowed to carry up to two litres of liquids in hand luggage.

The new scanners also mean an end to removing laptops and electricals from cabin bags.

The airports are Barra, Benbecula, Campbeltown, Dundee, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Tiree and Wick John O'Groats.

The airports also are investing in new body scanners, which will be in place at Benbecula, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, Stornoway and Sumburgh airports.
