SIA offers injured passengers US$10,000 compensation

Singapore Airlines has offered a compensation package worth at least US$10,000 to passengers hurt during the ex-London B777-300ER May 21 flight when turbulence resulted in dozens of injuries and one death.

The basic offer is for those who suffered minor injuries; passengers who suffered more serious injuries have been invited to discuss an offer, while all on board will have their ticket costs refunded.

In addition: “Passengers medically assessed as having sustained serious injuries, requiring long-term medical care, and requesting financial assistance are offered an advance payment of US$25,000 to address their immediate needs,” the airline said.

“This will be part of the final compensation that these passengers will receive.”

Some passengers remain in hospitals in Bangkok, where the plane made an emergency landing.

Aviation tracking site FlightRadar24 says the flight suddenly dipped and then rapidly climbed a few hundred feet, then dipped and climbed again before settling back at its cruising altitude. The entire disruption lasted about 90 seconds.
