The European Commission (EC) has told Germany-based Lufthansa Group and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance it objects to the proposed merger between Lufthansa and Ita Airways, saying the deal would restrict competition on specific short-haul routes into and out of Italy as well as long-haul flights between Italy and the United States, Canada and Japan.

Effective 01 April 2024 onwards, business travellers to Germany will no longer be exempt from the accommodation tax.
Reservations made in Germany's commercial or private Berlin hotels and accommodation establishments after 31 March 2024 will be subject to a tax of five per cent of the net room rate.
