UK airports recover after e-gates chaos
A UK-wide e-gates* outage caused chaos at airports across the country on Tuesday, with long queues of travellers waiting to have their passports checked manually.
The Home Office says the problem was solved early Wednesday morning (UK time).
*E-gates are automated gates that use facial recognition to check a person's identity and allow them to enter the country without speaking to a Border Force officer.
