GlobalData publishes 2024 first half deals list

A total of 347 deals (comprising mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture financing deals) were announced in the global travel and tourism sector during the first half (H1) of 2024, which was a year-on-year (YoY) decline of 12.6 per cent compared to the 397 deals announced during the same period in the previous year, according to analytics company GlobalData.
Thai AirAsia X to suspend Sydney-Bangkok flights from August to December

Thai AirAsia X is suspending its Sydney-Bangkok services from 1 August 2024 until December, when flights will resume "with additional flight frequencies and better connectivity to key onward destinations in the AirAsia Group network", the carrier stated.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says global passenger demand in May, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), was up 10.7 per cent compared to May 2023 and total capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), was up 8.5 per cent year-on-year. Load factor was 83.4 per cent, a record for the month.
