Iraq has turned down a DPRK (North Korea) request for an Air Koryo freighter to fly through its airspace en route to a destination in Syria.

The Iraqi government suspected the flight was carrying arms.

Iraq is very sensitive to international criticism that it is helping the Syrian administration in its bloody crackdown on civil unrest.

The freighter refusal was portrayed as a clear signal that this was incorrect and that Iraq wanted to see a peaceful solution of the Syrian crisis.-KK
