Germany's Lufthansa Cargo says it carried 1.9 million tonnes of freight and mail in 2011, up five per cent year-over-year and it also increased capacity by 8.6 per cent. Head of sales Andreas Otto said despite planning to cut capacity this year, the carrier expected strong tonnage growth.

US carrier American Airlines Cargo (AA Cargo) has topped the list of cargo carriers by tonnage at New York's JFK International Airport with more than 115,000 tons of cargo (or 9.1 percent of total cargo handled at the airport year-to-date) through October 2011.

Emirates adds 1st class and second Glasgow service

UAE-based Emirates airline is to introduce a second daily non-stop flight - and will introduce first class on both services at the same time, a Scottish airports first - from Glasgow to Dubai from the beginning of June. The new service increases capacity on the route by 47 per cent, an extra 199 seats each way.

The aviation Industry advisory group Global Air Cargo Advisory Group (GACAG) has urged the European Union to rethink its decision to force the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) on the aviation sector. Implementation, which took effect January 1, will spark a divisive and ultimately costly dispute with the international community and the global aviation industry, including the air cargo sector and its customers, said GACAG.
