Israel’s El Al has released positive third quarter 2008 results showing load factor at 85.4 per cent and revenues at their highest-ever level at US$607.3 million, up from US$566.7 million in Q3 2007. Gross profits for the quarter were US$133.4 million, compared to US$151.8 million in 2007.

Andrew Wood, general manager of the Chaophya Park Hotel, Bangkok provided this update on the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport. - Suvarnabhumi International Airport is now closed to all incoming and departing flights. Thai International (TG), the national carrier, has switched some of its flights to the old international airport at Don Meuang, in the north of Bangkok and to other provincial airports.

Jetstar Pacific’s Vietnam fight continues

The State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) of Vietnam, which holds 81 per cent of the shares in Jetstar Pacific Airlines, has asked the country’s Transport Ministry to overturn decisions by the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration (VCAA) that deny the airline flight rights for 10 international destinations.

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has called on countries supporting the severance of cargo from passenger rights to reach agreement on a separate cargo annex that could become the first step towards market liberalisation and openness in the air cargo market.
