The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released international traffic data showing that the global passenger load factor (PLF) fell to 73.3 per cent in February. This is 0.6 percentage points below the PLF in February 2007. Moreover it is the most significant drop in the PLF in four years.

February 2008 preliminary traffic results released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) indicate an increase of 4.8 per cent in the number of international passengers carried to 11.6 million. Passenger traffic in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) terms grew by 5.9 per cent on capacity growth of 5.7 per cent, leading to a marginal 0.1 percentage point improvement in passenger load factor to 76.3 per cent.

Heathrow T5 bans media, BA targets premium cargo

On Saturday morning, after two days of flight cancellations and baggage delays, media attempting to enter London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 were stopped at the door. More than 100 British Airways flights from T5 were cancelled on Saturday and Sunday, though BA did bring in additional staff to help clear the 15,000 misplaced bags and said things were improving.

Seattle, USA-based Saltchuk Resources – its businesses include air cargo, petroleum distribution and real estate -- has offered US$13m for Aloha Airlines’ cargo business. Aloha filed for bankruptcy last week and despite the Saltchuk bid, is still seeking court approval for an assets auction in mid-April that may attract more bidders.
