Pressures hit UPS revenues

UPS International says slowing international air freight demand and lower parcel handling rates contributed to a 1.6 per cent drop in revenues for supply chain and freight to US$2.28 billion for the first six months of this year. However, the US-based firm said operating profit remained strong, thanks to good management and cost controls.

HNA to contest Fuzhou market

HNA Group, China's fourth-largest airline group, has signed a co-operative agreement with the Fuzhou government in Fujian province to make Fuzhou Airlines part of its domestic expansion plans.
The Fuzhou market is dominated by China Southern's subsidiary Xiamen Airlines, which has a market share there of more than 50 per cent.

Qantas has said it will post its first annual loss since privatisation in 1995.

BAA abandons Stansted appeal

UK airport operator BAA has abandoned plans to appeal the sale of London's Stansted airport after earlier deciding to challenge a Competition Commission (CC) ruling that forces it to sell the airport. "Having carefully considered the Court of Appeal's recent ruling, BAA has decided not to appeal to the Supreme Court and is now proceeding with the sale of Stansted airport," BAA said.
