China Airlines (CI), the Taiwan-based carrier that has become an increasingly significant regional player in both passenger and cargo sectors, has further expanded its network.  This in turn is boosting Taipei’s status as a regional hub for business travel, MICE and freight, with freight strengthened further by the China Airlines and EVA freighter fleets based in Taipei.

A day after the Australian Senate passed the government's carbon pricing legislation - the tax imposes a levy of A$23 a tonne on emissions - prime minister Julia Gillard has said the carbon price will make coal-fired power more expensive, but "we will still be using some coal in the middle of the century, though it will be a different energy mix than what we would have had in a business-as-usual case".
